About UAB
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is an urban campus located on Birmingham's beautiful Southside. UAB is a member of the University of Alabama system and it accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities. UAB consists of thirteen schools including the graduate school and six health-related schools. The UAB Medical Center includes the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Public Health, Nursing, and Health Related Professions and the University of Alabama Hospitals. UAB Hospital is one of the top medical facilities in the country in terms of quality of health care with only the Mayo Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospitals ranking higher in a recent survey.
The UAB Medical Center has experienced explosive growth in the past decade with over half a dozen new research buildings or clinical facilities being completed in this time period. The combination of this growth and the quality of research programs conducted at the university has resulted in over $470 million annually in extramural grant support.
Aside from the medical research complex, UAB's Office of Student Life offers a wide variety of activities and programs including intramural and recreational sports, clubs and interest groups, a film series (current, foreign, and classic films), a lecture series, and concerts at Bartow Arena.
